News Round-Up: WHAT THE F ARE THESE?

A lot have hit the news since my blog last week about the informal settlers along our waterways but I have not taken serious time to write my musings.
Here are three of the stories and articles that got me caught up thinking "What the F are these?"

Filipinas vs Pilipinas
I have yet to encounter a Filipino who does not know when to use Pilipinas and the Philippines, but just in case you are one of them, we use Pilipinas in Tagalog and the Philippines in English. Did that surprise you? Oh well, I'm sure National Artist Virgilio Almario has more compelling reasons other than the alleged confusion in pushing for the use of Filipinas for the last 20 years. The Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino claims that the use of Filipinas promotes the country’s official and modern name which reflects its history and development as a nation. Now you are confusing me. Can you be more precise and clear as to how this will bring about unity? If you cannot, then just stop this effing of the Pilipinas.

Fifteen-Minute Breaks
At a glance, Nancy Binay's proposal for 15-minute breaks after every two hours of work for salesladies speaks of concern for their welfare. However, if you REALLY think about it, and if she REALLY have thought about it, the proposal puts women at a disadvantage. Capitalists would surely favor employees who serve more hours of work than those who have special need of 15-minute breaks. Needless to say, the proposal is an admission that women are weaker than men, and that they need more rest than men. This is in stark contrast though of the fact that women lasts so much longer hours of window-shopping than men. I guess, Nancy never thought of that.

Filipina Executed in China
She is the fifth Filipino drug mule since 2011 to be executed in China. Pity these couriers who often do not know they are carrying kilos of illegal drugs. Our authorities say that smuggling of the drugs usually happen via Dubai to Hong Kong then Shanghai area, so these couriers get cleared for flight on our airlines. Henceforth, our VP Binay reminds the Filipino drug traffickers that "Life is at stake." I couldn't agree more, so something has to be done more than just sending a blanket message to all drug traffickers.

There were other Frustrating stories such as the Failed games of Ateneo over NU and FEU putting our Blue Eagles to the pit of standings at 0-2, a First since 2003 for the Five-peat defending champions. Our game tomorrow is against rival La Salle, and I am quite sure that the Green Archers are raring to give us a 0-3 especially that Kiefer Ravena will still not be seen in action due to his injury.

There is one bit of GOOD NEWS though: Pope Francis will be canonizing two modern popes before the end of 2013. They are Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II. Now this is truly a Freaking GOOD NEWS to the Christian world. I have yet to read though about Pope John XXIII to know more about him.

Hopefully there will be more stories and articles to smile about next week. Then again, maybe not 'cause I bet a neophyte senator will be on the news again. Now, that's a Fearless Forecast.
